A
few scenes of Oriental hours before Irene’s arrival. These photos were taken in a brief weather break shortly before 7a. Extensive flooding has covered low lying streets in over 3 feet of water. Since the photos were taken, even higher winds, with gusts nearing 80 mph, have set in.

Captains in the storm: two shrimp boats, moored just off the Town Dock, weather the storm. The wind is directly on their bow. The harbor railing, which would normally be visible just in front of the vessel’s bows, is submerged.
