Village Gallery is marking its fourth year this month. The art gallery on Oriental’s Harbor opened its doors in April of 2009, with one room showing the art of some 20 local artists.The Village Gallery’s own building, from Karen Van Gamper’s “Gallery Porch.”Four years later, Village Gallery has spread out to put art on the walls — and tables — of six rooms occupying the entire bottom floor of the building. Paintings and sculpture, photography and fabric arts are some of the media on display.
“The Visitor” by Sue Henry at the Village Gallery.Since its beginnings four years ago, Village Gallery highlights the work of a guest artist every month and much of the work on display is by the local artists who make up the Village Gallery’s core. In recent years though, with its expansion, Village Gallery has also been showing and selling art on commission and has added a room of miniature pieces.
Work by April’s guest artist, Louis St. Lewis.To help keep the Gallery on Oriental’s harbor going, the annual “Black Velvet” fundraiser on Saturday, April 27 from 4-7p.
The public is welcome to visit and take in the art anytime, 10a-5p, Wednesdays through Sundays.
