9/11 Moment of Silence

South Pamlico Volunteer Fire Department invites the community to participate in a National Moment of Silence Saturday, Sept. 11, observed in Oriental at Hodges Street, near the town dock.

For the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Fire Station 19 will have their fire trucks near the town dock, draped in mourning bunting. They will ring the bell of the old La France fire engine, to signal the passing of the firefighters from that day and the beginning of the national moment of silence, observed at 8:46a. Taps will play after.

A ceremonial flag that flew over at the crash site of Flight 93 (and was gifted to SPVFD) will be flown at half-mast at the town dock for the day.

Hodges Street will be briefly closed to traffic for the ceremony.
