Evening at the Museum: Turtle Talks Timber

Oriental History Museum hosts the Evening at the Museum Speaker Series, Thursday evenings at 6:30p.

Thursday, August 20, Turtle Midyette talks about the boom and bust era of Oriental, (early 1900s) when the town had over 4,000 residents and the lumber trade via the Neuse was the mainstay of the economy. He’ll talk about how Oriental became the sailing capital, and the history of the boat yards in town.

Turtle is part of the Midyette family, related to Uncle Lou Midyette, who many credit with founding the town (and for whom Lou Mac Park is named).

This presentation will be at the Museum, and starts promptly at 6:30p, followed by a Q&A. Please arrive a few minutes early to find your seat.

The Oriental History Museum is at 802 Broad Street. The museum is a 501©(3) non-profit. Admission is always free. Donations are welcome.
