Dock Quote: “Time is like...

Join the New Bern Historical Society for the Hallowed Ground Lantern Tour, March 19, 20 & 21, from 6-9p.
Tour the New Bern Battlefield Park, site of the first Battle of New Bern. On this hour-long guided, lantern-lit walk through the wooded battlefield trails, ‘spirits’ of real characters from New Bern’s past share their stories.
Hear a firsthand account about the daring raid to capture a Union gunboat, about those who fled and those who stayed in New Bern after the battle. Hear from nursing nuns from New York who came to help the wounded, about a maritime involvement in the battle, and more.
“This is not a program about the war or a battlefield tour,” says Historical Society Executive Director, Mickey Miller, “it’s about the human side of folks who found themselves caught in the conflict.” These tales come from civilians, formerly-enslaved persons, and combatants, who found themselves in a country at war. The narratives are largely based on letters, diaries, and contemporaneous accounts.
Pre-paid reservations required, with specific day & arrival time. Tickets $16 for Historical Society adult members, students and active-duty military, $19 adult non-members. Space is limited. Reservations available at www.NewBernHistorical.org/tickets.
Not suitable for children under 7 or those with difficulty walking. Plan for 90 minutes for the entire tout.
