Coming Events in Oriental and in and near Pamlico County

Hank, Pattie & The Current - April 17

Hank, Pattie & The Current play The Old Theater April 17 at 7:30p.

Hank Smith, who teaches bluegrass music at UNC Chapel Hill, plays banjo. Pattie Hopkins Kinlaw, a classically trained violinist who studied with bluegrass master Bobby Hicks, plays fiddle and sings.

They’re an energetic “soulgrass” band from the Triangle who’ve played Oriental before: in the 2019 Ol’ Front Porch Music Festival. They blend traditional bluegrass with influences from classical music, Motown, jazz, and pop, rooting their sound in bluegrass while drawing from a wide range of musical traditions.

Rounding out ‘The Current’ are bassist Stevie Martinez, who performs with the Long Bay Symphony, and guitarist Cassidy Beentjes, educated at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, England.

Showtime: 7:30p. Box office opens at 6:30p, doors open at 7p. Tickets are $30. Available online here and at Nautical Wheeler’s.
