Holt's Chapel Civil Rights Photo Exhibit

Thursday through Sunday in February, from noon to 3p, Holts Chapel Community Center hosts an exhibition of images from the Civil Rights Movement and the South.

Joe O. Holloway, Jr. was a wire service photographer who worked throughout the southeastern states in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. His images show Civil Rights icons and scenes from daily life. Admission is free. Donations are accepted.

Holt’s Chapel was built in 1921 by Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington. It is one of over 5,000 schools built by the project to educate African Americans in rural communities, when schools were still segregated. Of those 5,000 ‘Rosenwald Schools’, only an estimated 10-12% are still in existence.

Holt’s Chapel Community Center is at 136 Janiero Rd. For more information contact Teresa Badger 252-249-1251, tdbadger@gmail.com
