News From The Village Updated Almost Daily

The Village Gallery welcomes July’s Artists of the Month, Kathleen Schaffer & Liz Morton.
Kathleen Schaffer is an oil painter, using an impasto technique with thick layers of paint in an impressionistic style. The technique allows the viewer to see the bold brush and palette knife strokes. Schaffer creates a vibrancy and sense of movement in her paintings through texture and color. She prefers painting landscapes, animals (in particular dogs, cats, and birds) and seascapes of the Crystal Coast.
Liz Morton works in mixed media to create layers with organic imaginings and transparent views rare in paintings. An award-winning artist and Eastern North Carolina native, Morton studied art at Appalachian State University, Barton College, The University of NC at Greensboro, and Ghost Ranch, NM. She exercises every opportunity to talk with other artists and visit studios, museums, and galleries during her extensive travels. Active in the Metropolitan DC area art scene for 20 years, Morton now calls coastal NC home.
The Village Gallery is at 300 Hodges St. in Oriental, open 10a until 5p, Wed – Sun. The Gallery displays the art of more than 30 member and consigned artists. For more information, call 252-249-0300 or visit villagegallerync.com.
