Southeast Pamlico Volunteer Fire Department invites the community to participate in a National Moment of Silence Wednesday, Sept. 11, observed in Oriental at Hodges Street, near the town dock.

This year’s even starts at 8:30a. Lieutenant Colonel Matt Howard, USMC Retired, was a Marine One helicopter pilot involved with getting President Bush to Ground Zero. He will speak about the event, then Officers will observe the national moment of silence at 8:46a. Taps will play after.

Fire Station 19 will have their fire trucks near the town dock, draped in mourning bunting. A ceremonial flag that flew over the crash site of Flight 93 (and was gifted to SPVFD) will be flown at half-mast at the town dock for the day.

Hodges Street will briefly close to traffic for the ceremony. The town dock is across from The Bean at 304 Hodges Street, Oriental.
