Weathering The Storm @ Oriental's History Museum

Oriental’s History Museum presents a special exhibit: Weathering the Storms: History of Eastern North Carolina Hurricanes.

Oriental, and the eastern coast of North Carolina, are no strangers to the floods and destruction caused by hurricanes. What do you know about those that have visited Oriental and the surrounding area? Many senior residents still remember the Hurricane of 1933 that washed away part of Oriental’s waterfront.

Visit the Museum’s new exhibit and learn about each of these hurricanes…Bertha, Connie, Ione, Isabel, Irene, Florence, and Dennis to name a few. Maps, descriptions, and photos tell a cautionary and educational story about Eastern North Carolina during hurricane season. This exhibit runs through January 2021. The museum is located at 802 Broad Street. Open Friday 11 – 1, Saturday, 1 – 4 only. The Museum is always free, but donations are gratefully accepted. For more information contact us at museum@dockline.net.
