May 4, 2022

M
unicpal elections for Pamlico County are May 17. Jamie Gibbs, at-large candidate for the Pamlico County Board of Education, writes in explaining why voters should consider him:
Hello, members of Pamlico County:

My name is Jamie D. Gibbs and I seeking your vote in obtaining one of the at-large seats for the Pamlico County Board of Education. I’ve been a long-time resident of Pamlico County, growing up in Merritt, NC. Jamie Gibbs I attended Pamlico County School System, graduating in 1988. I am married with three children and two grandchildren all of who attended the Pamlico School System.

As a student in the system, I was very active in sports and academics. I participated in such activities as the Band, Beta Club, French Club, Class Vice President, and Computer Club. I also won many accolades in sports which included Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Track.

After graduating from Pamlico County High School, I attended Elizabeth City State University (ECSU). During my time, I was in the Marching Band, served as President of the Senior Class, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Business Administration.

After graduating in 1992, from ECSU, I decided to return to Pamlico County and begin my professional career. I began working at Fred A. Anderson Elementary and Arapahoe Middle School as a Teacher’s Assistant. Later, I began to teach Special Education at Pamlico County Middle School. I also coached many sports which included Boys Basketball, Baseball, Football, and Girls Basketball. I also taught at Pamlico County Alternative School.

Later in my career, although I remained in education, I decided to continue my professional career at Pamlico Community College (PCC). I served as the College Recruiter and Director of Financial Aid. When the opportunity found itself, I was able to return to school for additional education. I obtained a Master of Arts in Education (MAED), in Adult Education. This allowed me a chance to earn the position of Dean, and my current role, as Vice President of Student Services at PCC.

My educational experiences, over the years, have afforded me an opportunity to serve on many platforms and boards. They include Pamlico County Arts Council, Pamlico County Partnership for Children, The Hodges Foundation, Coastal Women’s Shelter, HeartWorks, and State Employee’s Credit Union. I also served in a volunteer role, for the youth, as a counselor, mentor, and coach.

Because of my experience, and the proven commitment to Pamlico County, I am asking for your support as I move forward to obtain one of two at-large seats available on the Pamlico County Board of Education. My motivation to seek this seat is to invest in all of our children’s education. I am a believer that “children are our future.” Without a quality education, we will be setting our children up for failure.

As we continue with early voting, and on May 17th, I ask you to vote for Jamie D. Gibbs. Together, we can assist our children with taking their positive places in society and feeling proud to have come through the Pamlico County School system. You may contact me at jamiegibbsboe@gmail.com.
