The weekend weather provided an additional challenge for the 2023 Oriental Cup Regatta sailors: heavy weather experience.
Out on the Neuse before the storm.High winds and waves – plus a ripped sail for one vessel – added additional layers of difficulty for the race. And while not all who registered turned out on the water Saturday afternoon (the weather scared many away), they did get together for dinner, dancing, and sharing stories on Saturday night.
The members, guests, and sailors of the Oriental Cup Regatta – 88 in total – hanging out at the Oriental Marina & Inn after the races. The weather was such that the two boats that signed up for the Spinnaker Division chose not to go out.
Of those marked DNC (did not come to the starting area), some chose not to go out – or could not go out – due to the weather, one lost a rudder, and yet another had an injury aboard and chose to return home.
