Chadwick-Juner has been creating professionally for decades, continually working in different mediums and styles. Her exhibit at The Village Gallery features oil and acrylic works in photorealism, impressionism, and fantastical maritime scenes.

Presenting a visually diverse body of work doesn’t always work to the artists’ advantage. “It can be a problem, particularly when it turns into gallery representation because they want to see a consistent body of work,” says Chadwick-Juner. “It works against me. But I can’t help it – I’m just interested in a lot of things. And I like to experiment and try different things.”

“Light interests me. I’m trying to capture something that’s maybe not necessarily there… you’re never going to see those colors in Spanish moss in New Bern, but – yet – you feel like you do.”

Chadwick-Juner’s latest artistic exploration is a series called Reef People. It was inspired by artist Jason deCaires Taylor, a British artist who created life castings and set them at the bottom of the ocean to help encourage reef regrowth. Chadwick-Juner works to include more dynamic movement in her work, “mostly because it’s something [deCaires Taylor] can’t do.”

And these creations are not paintings as much as they are collages of acrylic paint she has manipulated with pours, flows, scraping, and even smashing the paints.
