While surge levels are way down – there still was flooding Saturday morning. Levels about 2 1/2 feet high. The truck in the photo is a dead truck… it appears a driver drove into high waters. FYI, cars and trucks are not good boats. It’s not the only high water dead vehicle this morning in Oriental.

From Saturday’s Greens Creek Challenge: sailors head to the starting line on the town side of the Oriental bridge.

Capsize recovery was among the skills deployed Saturday in the annual Greens Creek Challenge Regatta.

Lucille Truitt was a self-taught artist who lived and worked in Oriental, painting scenes of everyday life in the town. Saturday, Oriental’s History Museum will have a collection of her work on display. Her daughter, Mayor Sally Belangia, will be there from 2-4p to answer questions and discuss her mother’s work.

The flag flying over the Oriental free dock was gifted to the South Pamlico Volunteer Department – it flew over the crash site of Flight 93 in Shanksville, PA. It will stay there all day as part of SPVFDs observance of the 9/11 attacks.

Hurricane Lee’s official NHC forecast now clearly showing a turn north. The forecast is indicating Lee’s path will stay offshore of the US east coast. Longer term computer models (unofficial) predict a route to Atlantic Canada/Nova Scotia. More on Hurricane Lee at this link.

This is the NHC official forecast (5p Friday), overlaid over unofficial long term computer models. While we’ll remain nervous until the official forecast totally turns north, the positive news is that almost all the long term computer models project that Hurricane Lee will turn north, missing the US mid-atlantic coast.

Idalia’s forecast track has moved south since Sunday (a bit farther away from our fair city). That said, we are still in the potential forecast cone… this forecast could move back n’ forth as the storm approaches.

Intent eyes, bound for an ice cream reward. Every Friday afternoon during summer, Bow To Stern’s youth sailors celebrate the week with a sail to the harbor. At the harbor… The Bean. Ice cream. This photo was from this past Friday… the last day of youth sailing for the 2023 season.

It’s Watermelon Sunday @ The Bonds today. Everyone’s invited. You’d think there would be some discernment, but everyone even includes you. Just head to to the Bonds’ yard at Neuse & Ragan. It all starts at 4p.

South Pamlico Volunteer Fire Department houses nine emergency vehicles, including a truck for brush fires, one with a large capacity water tank, and others carrying both fire and medical supplies. Sunday evening, the trucks were on display outside Station 19.
