The Oriental Classic Car Show is Saturday… by the waterfront. Organizer Sam Myers tells TownDock that there was a record number of online car entries already – with more expected in person tomorrow. The shiny yellow hood above is from a 1956 Ford Truck, spotted at the 2019 show.

Etchells Loon and Oriental Express in close quarters in the 2019 Oriental Cup Regatta. The 2021 Oriental Cup Regatta is happening this weekend. A collaboration between Oriental’s three sailing clubs, the Regatta is relaxed race to raise money for youth sailing. There’s some sailing and some racing, good food and music. Oriental is a pathway for the Monarch Butterfly migration to Mexico. Several folks in town help these creatures make it from caterpillar to international traveler. Darlene Marquart is one such enthusiast and has been sharing the progress of her butterfly release program. She even gives them stickers before they depart. Sometimes they go by Frank & Vinny. At fancier joints, they call them Vignola & Raniolo. That’s a lotta vowels. These guys are renowned: Frank Vignola has played in bands for Ringo Starr, Madonna and Wynton Marsalis. Vinny Raniolo has performed at New York’s Lincoln Center and Italy’s Teatro Olimpico, plus on the soundtracks of major movies.
This Saturday, Oct 2, @ 7:30p the Pamlico Music Society presents guitarists Vignola & Raniolo. Tickets $25, available at Nautical Wheelers and online at www.pamlicomusic.org.
