August 31, 2017

C
herry Branch Ferry Terminal has a new building and the entire NC Ferry system has a new headquarters for its administrative staff. A couple of years and more than $2 million in the making , the building was commemorated Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Noticeably different than it’s predecessor, the new building also houses administrative staff.

The low-slung building has rest areas on the porch and inside for travelers wanting to get out of the sun – or cold – as they wait for the next ferry to cross the Neuse to the Pamlico County side at Minnesott Beach.

In another departure from the small 4-decade-old cinderblock building it replaces, the new one has spacious and sparkling bathrooms – now with motion-activated faucets and towel dispensers. There is also a third restroom specifically for families. (Unlike some restrooms at South of the Border, there is no charge to use these facilities.) There are also vending machines for snacks and sodas.

Welcome to the Cherry Branch Ferry.

Sharing the building with visitors will be the director of the NC Ferry system and administrative staff. The Ferry System had been renting office space at the state Port Authority in Morehead City.
