Old Theater’s Got Talent
Time to show off
September 17, 2020

O
riental’s Old Theater is a 165 seat venue. Originally built in 1946, it served as a movie house, surviving until the late 1950s. The building remained dormant for decades, waiting for its new mission.

Here’s the theater looking sad in the 1980s:

Restored and relaunched in 1995 as a non-profit theater for Oriental and Pamlico County, it has become Oriental’s key indoor venue for music & theater.

Spruced up in the new millennia:

Every year the non-profit’s key fundraiser is the Chili Cookoff. For 2020 COVID-19 cancelled that event.

But the Old Theater board had a different idea.

The 2020 Virtual Talent Show – Old Theater’s Got Talent
It works like this. You submit a video of your talent. This video can be theater, film, music – whatever you would like to present. Maximum length 5 minutes. Open to all ages.

Your video could be a two minute rendition of Casablanca. A one minute mystery. A musical performance. A silent photo essay. Dance. Your cat Whiskers singing La traviata.

You decide. Create your magical video. And send it in.

Here’s how.

Fill out this registration form. After registering, you’ll receive further instructions.

After you’ve created your video, send it in using one of these options: WeTransfer, Dropbox or Google Drive. Email that to oldtheatersgottalent@gmail.com. No political videos/themes please.

Deadline for registration forms and video submissions is Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 5p.

An Online Talent Show
Once those videos are received, an online Talent Show site will be created. The Old Theater’s Got Talent video performances will be streamed on TownDock.net from October 26 – October 30, 2020 (the show will remain posted on TownDock.net and the Old Theater website after the event).

Readers will get to vote online for their favorite videos. Awards will be presented to the top three fan favorites. There will also be a Judges’ Choice Award.

Support The Old Theater
It is free to submit videos, and watch the Old Theater’s Got Talent show. But the non-profit Old Theater still needs some $ to keep operating. The Old Theater Corp. is a registered 501©(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax deductible. Donations and sponsors are encouraged and appreciated.

Donations can be made online at the Old Theater website, www.oldtheater.org. Checks can be mailed to Old Theater, P.O. Box 521, Oriental, NC 28571.

Sponsorships: If you would like to be a sponsor, please contact Andrea Bayard at andreab7321@gmail.com.
