Scenes from a Wednesday Night Sail
A calm weekly 'race' on the waters off Oriental
August 27, 2025

W
ednesday evenings are for sailing. At least in the warmer months.

Five minutes before 5p, or sometimes 5:30p depending on the time of year, sailboats converge at marker #1SC. Single-handers and crews set out for a relaxed cruise around the marks.

This evening on the water is a decades-old tradition; the first instance in the TownDock archives dates to August 2002.

TownDock.net set out on a Wednesday in late July to photograph the scene.

Everyone’s invited, just bring your boat and your crew. No boat, no problem. Captains are always looking for willing crew.
