The Little Shrimping Fleet | July 19, 2021

The big shrimp trawlers are the ones that get noticed (and painted and photographed). But most summer afternoons you’ll find the “little shrimping fleet” on the waters on and just outside Oriental’s harbor. These are small recreational boats equipped with a tow net, and they find shrimp on their way out of our creeks and bound for the Neuse and Sound. (click for the big view and more pics)

Elsa Moves North - Satellite View | July 8, 2021

11:15a Elsa now moving through North Carolina – this is the NOAA GOES satellite view. While the center of Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to pass just west of Raleigh, we may see some tropical storm conditions this afternoon. Winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph possible.

Tropical Storm Elsa Forecast To Stay West | July 7, 2021

Tropical Storm Elsa’s forecast path north is staying west of us and inland. We are under a Tropical Storm Watch (a Watch means conditions are possible, a warning is more severe, indicating conditions are expected). Locally, Thursday is forecast to see 15-20 mph winds, with afternoon gusts to 30. One to two inches of rain in Oriental & Pamlico County, inland locations like Raleigh are forecast to see 2-4 inches.

Brewery Anniversary Lily | July 4, 2021

Recently (June 30) New Village Brewery marked their 4th anniversary. When the brewery opened a lily was planted by the front porch (it is co-owned by Lili, and known fior Lili’s breakfast stout).
