House raisin’ in the post Irene era has been popular in Pamlico County. Hurricane Irene’s surge measured at 9 1/2 feet in Oriental, a level that found more than a few homes flooded.
One of those homes was Roger & Elizabeth Cordes place on Hodges Street. Not wanting a repeat future flooding, the Cordes home is being raised… up above future hurricane levels while keeping its basic village home appearance intact. Laura calls this drawing “Molar Hill” – and sent along this note:
Here is “Molar Hill”:
PS – While the house is being raised, Elizabeth & Rogers dental office at the back of the property continues to operate as normal.A few years back Laura captured this same house from a different (lower) view.
Laura Turgeon and her husband Gil Fontes live in Oriental. When they are not out looking at boats Laura and Gil are often seen with drawing instruments or paint brushes in hand. More of Laura's work can be found at her site LauraTurgeon.com. |
