C-Dory Gathering
36 Salty C-Dory's Meet In Oriental
September 29, 2008

T
hree dozen C-Dory boats tied up this past weekend at Whittaker Pointe Marina as part of a C-Dory owners gathering (the owners sometimes call themselves “C-Brats”). While there were lots of North Carolina boats, many traveled from more distant states.. including Ohio, Florida, New Jersey and Tennessee. The local host was Gene Wooster’s Mobile East Marine – the only C-Dory dealer in North Carolina.

C-Dory’s come in many sizes sizes – from 16 to 29 feet. The 22 seemed to be a popular model at this gathering – with different variations based on the intended usage. The “Angler” features a longer cockpit so that the focus can be on fishing. The “Cruiser” has a longer cabin for those who want for interior space.

Here are some photos from the gathering:

Most of those mastless boats were C-Dory’s.
Marcia Rukavina and “Valkyrie” came to the gathering from Ohio, making the passage mostly by land, with the boat on a trailer.

Many of the boats carried women’s names. Others played on the C-Dory name – this one was ‘Hunk-e-Dory”.
You might be able to guess on what branch of service this boat’s owner served in.

Antibody.
Antibody’s owner, Norman Gelz of Beaufort, says he worked for years on enzyme research.
One visitor, Cain, raised some.
At the dinner Saturday night.
Entertainment for the evening was Bob Laverty.
Three C-Dory’s. They run on an outboard engine, such as these Hondas.
This shiny new Ranger tug isn’t a C-Dory, but it is sort of a family member. The Ranger tugs and the C-Dory’s are both made in Washington state – and both sold locally by Mobile East Marine.
Most of the C-Dory’s somehow ended up at the marina’s aptly named C-Dock.
