Circle 10's Heart To Art
Valentine Theme Through February
February 9, 2010

F
ebruary being the month of St. Valentine’s Day, Circle 10 Art Gallery is celebrating the arts with heart. And the hearts with art.

On special display throughout February will be heart-themed works by the Circle 10 artists.

Winter Warmth, one of the new paintings by Janet Adkins, one of Circle10’s founding members.

As with all the work at Oriental’s long-running art gallery, the “heart-works” are for sale. With Valentine’s Day coming, they are an alternative to the flowers or candy of this holiday.

An array of various media went in to making the heart-works.

Circle 10 president, Candace Young says each of the cooperative’s artists took the heart or love motif and gave it their own twist. The resulting interpretations are, she says, “flowery, funny, pensive, philosophical, witty and downright whacky.”

“Love Me Tender.” Collage by Evie Chang Henderson. (Likely the most tasteful work of Elvis art ever created.)

Among the works — and potential Valentine’s Day gifts — are sun-catcher hearts by Eloise Brown, baskets by Becky Willi, pottery by Candace Young and Carole McCracken and photos by Paula Valinoti, Ron Gutkowski and Bev Fruhling. There are also paintings by Karen VanGamper, Phyllis McFadden and Janet Adkins, jewelry by Doris Schneider, needle art by Priscilla Brant and finely crafted and turned wood by Cliff Hill.

More of the Heart To Art works on display and for sale in February.
Deb Iannitto’s copper enameled work. This one is called, Opposites Attract.

Circle 10 is located at 1103 Broad Street, Oriental. Regular hours are Wednesday-Saturday 10a-5p and Sunday 1-4p. For more info, call 249-0298
