A few of the faces and scenes on Election Day 2008 in Oriental.

Come what may — and high water did come in parts of town — more than 73% of voters in Oriental’s precinct voted in this election. 1101 had voted before the polls opened Tuesday and another 330 voted on the actual election day.

When 7:30 came, chief voting judge Evie Chang Henderson stepped outside and in following the protocol, called, “The polls are closed.” A few moments later, she and fellow judges Mike Rieckhoff and Jerry Harrison stood by and waited for the voting machines to download the votes.
